More custom work completed

Stands for stained glass garden art.  Making the radius without a roller was an adventure.  The customer wanted a "rakish" angle for the radius.  I hope he likes it.  This was a pretty straight forward build.  It needed to look hand made without  pulling the eye away from the the stained glass.  Maybe the customer will be kind and send me a pic with stained glass installed so I can share it.

Finally got to work in the shop with no disasters to distract me.

It was actually relaxing to work in the shop yesterday.  The overnight low was in the 50's and there was a nice breeze.  The trip hammer is in the shop proper (in the way for the moment) and the coal forge was moved in the shade and out of the wind.
1800's tech still going strong
The coal forge was in use until the skeeters tried to carry me away and then I moved into the shop.  One custom order down and 4 more to go!
The weather was so nice the dogs could lay out in the sun and not roast like a thanksgiving turkey.
Dogs not roasting in the sun
That's all for the update, time to get back to having fun and getting paid for it.  After we get the trip hammer set up I'll do a short post on it and show it in action.

Power is restored and the basement is drying out!

Let's hope this week hasn't the adventures and off grid living practice of the last week or two.  This week will be spent getting custom orders out and making stock.  We've went from needing three tables at shows down to two and if I don't get stuff made it'll be one very shortly.
Thanks to everyone that has supported us this year!

Hot Weather and No Power has slowed things down at the shop.

Hi Everyone,
Due to the fun with the recent storms, flooded basements, and lack of power we are behind on getting product done for custom orders and store stock.  As of today, 07/22/16 the power company says we should definitely, maybe have power back by tomorrow sometime, maybe.  We appreciate your patience until things get back on schedule.

On a side note I've been working at night to avoid the heat so if I look like I've been up all night at the shows, it's because I have been.

We will be at Moose Lake Arena tomorrow.

Also my partner Chad and his fiance are expecting puppies. You guys might have seen the Siberian husky they sometimes bring with them to shows. As soon as she has puppies we will be posting pictures.

Wow, what a week so far!

We've had flooded basements and power outages to deal with, maybe soon we can get back to smithing!
There used to be room for two.
We are planning on being at moose lake this weekend if the roads are passable and the venue isn't underwater.

Chad and Brit hit the road to bring HBI to another new venue!

Come visit Hunchback Ironworks at our newest venue at Bay Days on the gorgeous north shore of Lake Superior.  The event looks to be a lot of fun for the whole family.

Chad and Brit will be manning our booth, which will be located in the Silver Bay Shopping Center parking lot.  Hours are:
Friday, July 8 from noon to 6pm
Saturday, July 9 from 9am to 6pm
Sunday, July 10 from 9am to 2pm

We hope to see you there!

Half of the HBI crew is in Silver Bay this weekend and the other half is slaving over a hot forge to bring you more product

Hi everyone,
HBI won't be at Moose Lake or Mahtowa this weekend (July 9-10 2016) because we need to make more stuff.  The 2 weeks I was in the burning wastelands has messed with production and I need to get caught up.  We'll be back to our regular venues on the 16-17 of July.  I hope to see everyone then!  Thanks for buying enough stuff I have to make more!!!

Dirty dogs, old trailers and trip hammers......oh my!!!

Bad ass grinder of doom
So I had a 25 lb Little Giant trip hammer in storage in the burning waste lands and I needed it to come home with me.  By the way, thanks to all my customers who've made me so busy that I now need my trip hammer to keep up with orders!!!!!  Anyways, I needed a trailer to get it home to the great white north and being poor I cannot afford a shiny new trailer so I had to scour craigslist to find a suitable candidate that was cheap enough and stout enough for my needs.  I drove out to BF nowhere and brought one home.  The dirty SOB didn't tell me it had a broken leaf spring.  It was broken up the mounting bolt and the broken part couldn't be seen until the trailer was jacked up and the tire off.  The SOB had to see it when he changed out the wheels and tires.  I hate crooked bastards like that.
Because the trailer is old the parts on the undercarriage are obsolete and I had to have a the springs rebuilt in a custom shop.  It is still cheaper than a new trailer or a uhaul rental.

There is hope that late next week I'll be headed back to the Northlands with dogs and trailers in tow.
